Following my first year of college, I worked full time as a reporting intern at the Charlotte Observer, North Carolina’s largest newspaper. I wrote on topics ranging from neighborhood schools to city infrastructure projects. I learned how a newsroom operates and made connections with local leaders.
Although I chose not to pursue traditional journalism after summer 2012, I consider my time working directly with local media incredibly valuable, and it still influences how I interact with the press.
